Ladies and Gentlemen,

I extend a warm welcome to you all to the designated website for our Jubilee 2010. This year, the University of Basel celebrates its 550th birthday. Of course we wish to commemorate this signal event, but we also wish to take it as a point of departure for thinking about the role which our University, the oldest in Switzerland, has played since 1460 in spreading and developing knowledge in so many disciplines and research fields.

Inspired by our motto "Moved by Knowledge", we have organised a series of events in the city of Basel and in the surrounding region. We encourage you to participate in our festivities, and thereby become familiar with both the history and the envisaged future of the University of Basel.

Starting with the "Knowledge Market" in Liestal in April, we will continue with an international conference on the impact of knowledge in May, numerous presentations of our university in regional centres and then, as the peak of our Jubilee, a festival of science in Basel in September.

Moreover, there will be exhibitions on different aspects of our University's history. Come and celebrate with us! We urge you to visit our exhibition booths, to participate in our conferences, and to join in the social events our organisation team has put together for you. Let the University of Basel and its knowledge fascinate you.
